World stage at Kiwi wrestler's feet

Quiet and unassuming outside the ring, Jade "Powerhouse" Drane vows to "take no prisoners" when he gets his shot at professional wrestling fame.

The 97-kilogram powerhouse is one of six Wellington athletes who will get a shot next week at joining the big boys of world wrestling.

The United States-based World Wrestling Entertainment organisation, which has shows in Auckland and Christchurch this month, is looking at Kiwi talent.

The wrestlers, as well as a "manager" and "diva", will be put through their paces by its scouts. They will be judged on ring skills, charisma, drive and grit.

If they make the cut they will travel to a training camp in Florida to be groomed for a spot in the WWE. Eventually they could fight legends such as The Undertaker, Stone Cold and Triple H during the shows that screen in 91 countries attracting millions of viewers.

It has been almost 20 years since New Zealand tag team The Bushwhackers carried the flag in America, but Drane, skilled in the art of sleeper holds, full nelsons and piledrivers, hopes to end the drought.

"I have always loved wrestling and have wanted to be a wrestler my whole life. This trial is my big chance to fulfil my dream."

He has been wrestling for only a year, but seasoned professionals have been impressed with his natural ability. Bob Miller - one half of the Bushwhackers - told the 20-year-old he had the potential to make his mark on the world stage.

Drane, who trains nine times a week, said he perfected many of his wrestling moves, including the torture rack, while watching his heroes on television.

The quietly spoken wrestler admitted he would have to improve his "trash talk" if he was to be taken more seriously in the industry. "The more experience I get, the better it will be. It can be quite intimidating, but I'll get it sorted."

Wannabe manager Terry Tziakis - the Golden Greek - is excited about strutting his stuff in front of the talent scouts and takes his wrestling role seriously.

"I don't take crap from nobody. I demand respect and I get it."

Diva Hollie Weir has recently completed a bachelor of performing arts and enjoys using her acting skills during the wrestling events.

Her role is to distract wrestlers fighting her "man", whether by laying in a boot outside the ring or yelling at the referee.

Celine Dion used over 6.5 million gallons of water

Washington (ANI): Canadian singer Celine Dion has been put to shame by the water authorities in Florida after she used over 6.5 million gallons of water at her home in the state. The singer was further named for the over excessive usage of water, which mounted to 29.5 million liters - the highest figure for a residential property in the US, Contactmusic reported. The figure was taken from her utility bill records for last year (07) for her Marin County, Florida home, and it was discovered that the water used was enough to fill a large bathtub every four minutes. The usage showed quite a vast difference from other family homes in the area, which use just 120,000 gallons (550,000 liters) over a year.

50 Cent - 50 Cent Awaiting Investigation On House Fire

LATEST: Rapper 50 CENT is "eager" to discover the authorities' findings surrounding the fire that engulfed his New York home, endangering his son and ex-girlfriend.

The Long Island estate - owned by 50 Cent and occupied by his former lover Shaniqua Tompkins and their 10-year-old son Marquise - was set ablaze in what New York cops have called a "highly suspicious" inferno that raged at 5am (EST) on Friday (30May08).

The home has been at the centre of a bitter dispute between the hip-hop star - real name Curtis Jackson - and Tompkins since last month's (Apr08) ruling that she and Marquise must leave the rapper's mansion by the end of 2008.

The star's spokesperson says, "Informed this morning while filming a new motion picture on location in Louisiana, Curtis Jackson expressed deep concern over this fire at his property. He is extremely thankful that everyone including his son, Marquise, escaped the burning house safely.

"He is confident that authorities will be conducting a thorough investigation of the incident and is eager to review their findings."

And Tompkins - who split from the rapper in 2003 - has fuelled reports a vengeful party is to blame after revealing she heard "someone" come into the house at 4am, an hour prior to the incident.

Police have sent sniffer dogs to search the rubble for a substance that may have been used as an igniter.

However, the In Da Club hitmaker is not being treated as a suspect, reports TMZ.com.

Sabrina star Melissa Joan Hart gives birth

Melissa Joan Hart and her husband Mark Wilkerson have welcomed their second child, a baby boy.
According to People magazine, the 31-year-old actress, best known for role in 'Sabrina the Teenage Witch', gave birth to a 7lbs 3oz baby yesterday afternoon.
The couple, who married in 2003, already have a two-year-old son called Mason.
Hart previously said: "This has been a long but exciting pregnancy, and we along with Mason are excited to add to the Wilkerson clan."

New drama: Pets, Pete and Amy Winemouse

On the face of it, it's hard to guess what might link a litter of baby mice; the singer Amy Winehouse and millions of YouTube viewers. Yet the three elements have come together in a web video of the singer playing with a box of baby mice, alongside Babyshambles singer Pete Doherty.

The film shows Ms Winehouse holding up one of the rodents and using it to plead with her jailed husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, not to divorce her.

This latest disturbing display will almost certainly add to the antipathy between Winehouse's family and that of Mr Fielder-Civil. The constant revelations about the couple are thought to have fuelled anger between Winehouse's mother and her mother-in-law over who is to blame for their problems.

Janis Winehouse lays the blame for her daughter's use of hard drugs squarely at the door of her son-in-law. In a bitter outburst, she accused Mr Fielder-Civil of being a scheming freeloader who manipulates the press with a view to a multimillion-pound divorce settlement.

Mrs Winehouse, who is divorced from Amy's father Mitch, said: "As far as I'm concerned, Blake more than played his part in Amy's downfall. People I trust have told me Amy didn't start on the hard drugs until she met Blake – and I think that says it all. Don't get me wrong: I know she dabbled in drugs before. But she was always adamant that she would never touch the hard stuff.

"That all changed when she met Blake. She didn't start self-harming until Blake came along either. I know Georgette, Blake's mother, says the opposite and blames Amy for Blake's downfall, but that's absolute rubbish. I think she's fighting a good cause for her son so he gets a good payout from any divorce."

But Mr Fielder-Civil's mother Georgette, a Nottinghamshire hairdresser, says her son is being "conveniently" blamed for the singer's problems. "Janis has never said a nice thing about Blake. It's been too convenient for her to blame him for Amy's addiction. Although we are not in touch, I believe Mitch is as scared as we are about what the hell will happen to them when Blake gets out."

In the internet video the singer picks up a rodent and, in a mouse "voice", sends a message to her husband, on remand in prison accused of assault and perverting the course of justice. Doherty joins in, picking up another and saying: "If you divorce her, you'll have me to deal with."

The RSPCA said baby mice should always be left undisturbed, as "strange human smells" could lead their mothers to kill them.

Director Attacks Critics After Film Is Held Back

Controversial director Uwe Boll has hit back at critics after his new film Postal opened in only four cinemas in the US.

The movie, an adaptation of the 2003 videogame Running With Scissors, is seen as being strongly opposed to president George Bush, leading hundreds of cinemas across the US to bar its release.

In response, Boll has launched a scathing verbal broadside at his critics, saying they spend far too much time watching "escape movies", while ignoring his own cinematic efforts.

"To all of you writing now about me and the fact that Postal is not getting screens: it's okay; it's fun kicking a guy non-stop who is on the ground," he wrote on the official Postal website.

"You are all not getting it that I'm the guy who made it against the big Hollywood system and you are busy [trying to] destroy me and finish me up."

"Postal makes some very important points, but you don't want to see that Bush used September 11th to start a war against a country that had nothing to do with Bin Laden etc.

"But this doesn't matter because you are all too busy thinking that Indiana Jones or Narnia are important movies, but really they are empty shells from an industry that wants to make money and keep you watching escape movies with nothing in them."

The film version is already out in Germany, Mr Boll's home country, but no UK release date is yet available.

He continued: "In between they put some controversial movies out to show they can do also important movies, but these are not really critical and only support the system and don't show the big picture.

"And Postal shows the big picture; it nails the absurd situation with all the stupid religions, races and nations we live in. Postal is not accepting bulls**t politics."

Hulk Hogan - Bollea My Brother Saved My Life

LATEST: HULK HOGAN's daughter BROOKE has credited her jailed brother NICK for inadvertently saving her life during a car crash in Florida on Sunday (25May08).

Hogan - real name Brooke Bollea - was driving across the Bayside Bridge in Clearwater, Florida, with a friend when her vehicle was involved in a collision with several other cars.

No one has been reported injured after the smash, which is said to have occurred when Bollea's Mercedes hit the back end of another car, according to TMZ.com.

Both Hulk Hogan - real name Terry Bollea - and his estranged wife Linda, rushed to the crash site to tend to their 20-year-old daughter.

And Bollea insists she only escaped unscathed because she fastened her seatbelt - and her brother's horrific car crash last year (07) serves as a constant reminder for her to buckle up.

Nick, 17, is currently serving an eight month jail sentence after pleading no contest to felony reckless driving following the crash in Clearwater, Florida, which left his friend John Graziano critically injured.

Bollea writes on her Myspace internet page, "I truly believe my brother and John saved My life and my best friends life.... I don't know if you heard, but my friend and I got into a really bad car accident today ourselves... As I turned on my car I clicked my seatbelt. I reminded (my friend) to put it on and the minute she clicked it, a car crashed into us. It was a horrible car accident, one that most would be severely hurt in, but we had our seatbelts on and they kept us in tight. I have to thank my brother and my best friend John for teaching me an important lesson that saved our lives."
